Using Patents to Teach History

Who invented the telephone? What did the first roller coaster look like? Why did architects design the Golden Gate Bridge the way they did? How was the first airplane constructed?

In their continuing mission to make knowledge accessible, the folks at Google have introduced Google Patents. The Google Patents database contains over 7 million patents to view and download, making it an excellent classroom resource.

* All patents available through Google Patent Search come from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
